The Port of Rotterdam is the logistical heart of Europe and moves the world. It can feel distant – a vast industrial machine operating on a scale that seems to have little to do with everyday life. But its consequences are anything but abstract – and the stories of people who live and work in the shadow of the port bring that reality home.
In the video series ‘Diepgang’, One Planet Port gives the floor to people with their own, critical perspective on the port and its influence on their surroundings.
Episode 1: ‘Over de brug’ (About the bridge)
Lifelong Rotterdam resident Matthijs Lievaart shares his family history of displacement to make way for the port, and his current fight to protect the nature where he lives today from a proposed new bridge across the Nieuwe Maas, between De Esch and IJsselmonde.
